Resource Center’s Behavioral Health Program facilitates and hosts a variety of FREE Support Groups from LGBTQ community interest groups.

Support Groups provide a safe and nurturing environment among like-minded peers for individuals to give and receive emotional support and empowerment to talk through life events, mental health related issues, explore feelings and better understand themselves and others.

Simply walk-in to one of the support group meetings on designated dates and times; no pre-registration required.

DFW LGBTQ Grief & Loss Support Group        

Focus: A grief and loss support group for LGBTQ persons who have experienced the death of a partner or spouse.

Facilitator: Peer Support

Dates & Times: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 6:45-8 p.m.

THRIVE Support Group     

Focus: A support group for LGBTQ Adults ages 50+. This group is a great opportunity to meet new people, get past the small talk and create meaningful connections with other LGBTQ folks over 50.

Facilitator: Resource Center Behaviorial Health

Dates & Times: Mondays, 11:45 a.m.-1 p.m.

Straight Spouse Support Group          

Focus: A welcoming and safe place to find support and understanding for straight spouses dealing with the difficult and confusing issues they can experience after discovering their spouse or partner is gay. Sharing and listening to personal stories, exploring effects of having lived with a closeted spouse, concerns about children, or discussions about making personal rules for couples who decide to stay together.

Facilitator: Straight Spouse Network Peer Support

Dates & Times: 2nd Friday, 6:30-8 p.m.

Gender-affirming Support Group

Focus: Gender-affirming support for transgender and gender non-conforming (GNC) adults ages 18+. Allowing individuals to explore issues of concern without fear of not being understood or encountering prejudice about gender identity.

Facilitator: Resource Center Behaviorial Health

Dates & Times: Tuesdays, 6-7:15 p.m.; Social Support 1st Tuesday of each month 7:15-9 p.m.

MPower Yourself Support Group (18-35)

Focus: A support group affirming of diverse gender identities, sexual orientations, and racial/ethnic backgrounds, aimed at promoting self-empowerment, personal growth, interpersonal relationships, and overall well-being. Individuals ages 18-35 are welcome to come discuss topics ranging from but not limited to gender and sexual identity exploration, racial identity development, HIV treatment and prevention, and overall general mental health issues.

Facilitator: Behavioral Health-SMU Students

Unwired: CMA-Crystal Meth Anonymous                       

Focus: Crystal Meth Anonymous (CMA) is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other, so they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addiction to crystal myth. The only requirement for members is the desire to stop using. Additional information on the local area website cmatx.org.

Facilitator: CMA Peer Support

Dates & Times: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There are several designations for meeting types and who can attend.

Youth First Support Groups

Focus: Gender Identity Support Group for transgender and gender diverse youth ages 12-18 and STAY (Suicide Prevention Support Group) is for LGBTQ and allied youth ages 12-18 to break the stigma on talking about mental health and empower youth to express feelings and start meaningful conversations

Coffee Chat: Parents & Caregivers of LGBTQ Teens Support Group

Focus: A casual support group for adults of LGBTQ teens providing an open and accepting space to encourage open discussions and meaningful conversations regarding the unique challenge’s LGBTQ teens, parents and caregivers may face at home or school. Building healthy connections with other parents and caregivers of LGBTQ youth, while fostering overall healthy family relationships to support and empower the teen to lead an authentic life.
