Resource Center’s Behavioral Health Program facilitates and hosts a variety of FREE Support Groups from lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer/questioning (LGBTQ) community interest groups.

 

Support Groups provide a safe and nurturing environment among like-minded peers for individuals to give and receive emotional support and empowerment to talk through life events, mental health related issues, explore feelings and better understand themselves and others.

 

Simply walk-in to one of the support group meetings on designated dates and times, no pre-registration required.

 

DFW LGBTQ Grief & Loss Support Group        

Focus: A grief and loss support group for LGBTQ persons who have experienced the death of a partner or spouse.

Facilitator: Peer Support

Dates & Times: 2nd and 4th Tuesdays, 6:45-8 p.m.

Gray Pride Support Group     

Focus: A support group for LGBTQ Senior Adults to socialize and interact while exploring issues such as combating isolation, grief and loss, coming out, aging gracefully, retirement, and other societal aging issues.

Facilitator: SMU Center for Family Counseling Resource Center

HIV Support Group

Focus: “Coffee Chat”: Socializing and emotional support for HIV positive persons, their spouses, friends or caretakers, while enjoying coffee and pastries. Open to Resource Center clients and non-clients.

Facilitator: SMU Center for Family Counseling Resource Center

Dates & Times: Mondays and Wednesdays, 9-11:30 a.m.

Straight Spouse Support Group          

Focus: A welcoming and safe place to find support and understanding for Straight Spouses dealing with the difficult and confusing issues they can experience after discovering their spouse or partner is gay. Sharing and listening to personal stories, exploring effects of having lived with a closeted spouse, concerns about children, or discussions about making personal rules for couples who decide to stay together.

Facilitator: Straight Spouse Network Peer Support

Trans Support Group

Focus: Transgender affirming support for transgender and gender non-conforming young adults ages 18-29. Allowing individuals to explore issues of concern without fear of not being understood or encountering prejudice about gender identity.

Unwired: CMA-Crystal Meth Anonymous                       

Focus: Crystal Meth Anonymous (CMA) is a fellowship of people who share their experience, strength and hope with each other, so they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from addiction to crystal myth. The only requirement for members is the desire to stop using. Additional information on the local area website cmatx.org.

Facilitator: CMA Peer Support

Dates & Times: Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. There are several designations for meeting types and who can attend.

Veterans Open Alliance Support Group

Focus: A welcoming and safe place for LGBTQ Veterans to discuss and explore topics related to PTSD, relationships, sexuality, health, identity and stress.

Youth First Support Groups

Focus: Gender Identity Support Group for transgender and gender diverse youth ages 12-18 and STAY (Suicide Prevention Support Group) is for LGBTQ and allied youth ages 12-18 to break the stigma on talking about mental health and empower youth to express feelings and start meaningful conversations

Facilitator: Youth First Program Staff and Peer Support
