Mental Health Counseling

Resource Center Dallas, in partnership with the Center for Family Counseling at Southern Methodist University, offers affordable, sliding scale, behavioral health counseling services for the LBGT Community.

The program is staffed by interns in SMU’s Master of Science Counseling Education Program, which prepares individuals for professional practice as counselors. The graduate students are under the supervision of doctoral-level licensed university faculty and staff. Counseling is available for individuals, couples, families and or in support groups.

LBGT affirmative counseling is offered allowing clients to explore issues of concern without fear of not being understood or encountering prejudice or heterosexism in the counseling relationship. Clients come with a wide range of presenting concerns. These concerns may include:

• Coming out
• Grief
• LBGT parenting
• Self esteem
• Depression
• Anxiety
• Relationship difficulties
• Stress
• Personal growth
• Transgender issues
• Social anxiety
• Work stress
• Other issues

A free confidential appointment is made with an intake counselor to determine your counseling goals and needs. Most clients can then be scheduled for regular counseling service with us. Referrals can be made if the presenting issues are best served by another program. All services are offered on a sliding scale basis. We do not accept insurance.
