Volunteer

Volunteering makes a difference in your community.

While the Center employs paid staff, the mission of the Center could not be achieved without people like you. The talents, skills, time, and energy donated by our volunteers are a valued resource. More than 1,000 community members each year donate their time and talents to the Center. Whether it’s serving meals, answering phones, designing a brochure, or helping at fundraising events, volunteers enable the Center to provide superior service to the community.

The first step to volunteering is to attend volunteer orientation. Volunteer orientation is offered monthly. Call 214-528-0144 to register for the next class. Inform us if you are signing up for court appointed community service orientation. COMMUNITY GROUPS, SCHOOLS, AND BUSINESS VOLUNTEERS:

Resource Center Dallas has an established volunteer program which successfully collaborates with various community groups and businesses throughout the year. The Center will work with your group to organize a project for your group’s needs and provide a group orientation. If your organization, business or school is interested in a volunteer project, please contact the volunteer coordinator.

CORPORATE VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:

Take a break from the usual routine, get out of the office and give back to your community. Volunteering for one-day events has become a favorite team building exercise for companies big and small. People who work well together as a team are one of the most valuable assets any employer can have. This is a way for your organization to improve communication and camaraderie on all corporate levels. The satisfaction that comes from helping others will leave your group humbled, inspired and motivated.

To maximize the benefits of your group’s experience, we ask for a three week advance notice.

If your company is interested in a volunteer project, please contact the volunteer coordinator at 214-528-0144 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it .

If you have been assigned community service hours by the court system or expect to be assigned hours at a future date and wish to fulfill those required hours at Resource Center Dallas, there are additional instructions you need to follow. These rules apply to all persons doing their community service work through the Volunteer Center of North Texas, the Day Reporting Center of Dallas, the County of Denton or on the advice of your attorney.

  • Be sure the Resource Center Dallas and its programs are approved by the volunteer agency and supervisor for your case.

  • In most cases, the agency must refer you to the Center for community service first.Your casework supervisor will call to verify volunteer hours on a regular basis. Be aware that you may be required to complete a set number of hours during each reporting period.

  • Hours spent at the Center’s training classes (i.e., Community Service Orientation, Diversity 101 or AIDS 101) count toward your community service work. You must get your time card signed by the instructor and sign in on the volunteer log before leaving the class in order for these hours to be counted.

  • You may choose volunteer activities only from the list of activities the Center provides you for credit.

  • All community service must be done on-site. Any hours done off location do not count towards required hours.

  • The Center cannot guarantee it will have activities that will fit your personal schedule or other needs. In particular, agency labor needs for the weekend and evening hours are limited.

  • If you cannot make your scheduled shift, please notify appropriate staff member.
