Named after long-time activist and local Dallas historian, the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library is home to the largest gay and lesbian literary collection in North Texas. Established in 1994, the library includes over 7,000 book titles, a wide selection of DVD and VHS movies, music CDs, and magazines all focusing on LGBT and HIV/AIDS topics. The library has access to consumer health information through Medline and other databases and is a member of the National Network of Libraries of Medicine.
Professional librarians and knowledgeable volunteers are available to assist you with book recommendations and with your research needs.

The Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library is privileged to preserve an extensive collection of historical LGBT related documents and memorabilia dating back to the 1940s. The majority of the archive collection has been cataloged and remains in storage due to lack of space. However, the Center frequently displays selections when relevant to current events. These displays are available for loan to area universities, businesses and organizations. Contact the librarian if you wish to have a display at your location or have material significant to LGBT history that you wish to donate to the archives.
