Capital Campaign

Why A New Center

For 30 years, Resource Center has been a trusted leader providing programs and services to the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community and all people affected by HIV and AIDS. As times have changed, so have the needs of the community we serve.

To meet the growing demand for LGBT-focused programs, Resource Center has added youth programming (Youth First), expanded our seniors program (Gray Pride) and in partnership with Southern Methodist University, will double the size of our mental health counseling program. At the same time, we are committed to maintaining our extensive services for people living with HIV/AIDS, Our current facility will not accommodate this growth and the people we serve are looking to Resource Center to expand these and other services. But to do so, we need your help.

Resource Center is in the midst of an $8.7 million capital campaign to build a new community center and headquarters near the intersection of Cedar Springs and Inwood Road. With $4.4 million raised, we’ve crossed the halfway mark to that goal. The next critical milestone is hitting $6.5 million, the 75% needed to break ground.

The new community center is designed to accommodate the current and future LGBT-focused programs.  The Reagan and Brown headquarters will be remodeled to consolidate HIV services and the food pantry in a location familiar to these clients and historically significant to the North Texas LGBT community.

We need your help more than ever raising the $2.1 million needed to start construction on the new community center.

Community centers have historically played an important role in the gay community, providing safe places to gather and find “families of choice.” Even with society’s evolving acceptance of LGBT people, community centers remain necessary to forging these deeply meaningful connections. Until our LGBT friends, neighbors and families are given the legal recognition they need and protection they deserve, Resource Center will be a vital community service provider.
